Bellydance YogaBelly

A healing flow of yoga and bellydance for all women, 90 mins. Beginners and experienced welcome!

Great for toning, flexibility, fertility, post-baby exercise & relaxation. In each class, a special goddess card is chosen.Your personal goddess serves as a guide  and inspiration during practice. After grounding with some yogic breathing, and meditation we awaken our energy through a  flow of postures designed to strengthen and open the entire body, with special attention given to the hips, pelvis, and spine. We then flow effortlessly into some simple, yet powerful bellydance movements that nourish our reproductive organs, release spinal tension, and bring emotional well-being. We then let go of our inhibitions and tension through a releasing shimmy and finally end  in deep relaxation. Throughout the class, attention is given not only to proper alignment and technique but also to deepening our intuitive faculties, and connecting to the sacred energy flowing through us.  The term ‘Shakti’ means sacred force, or power. It is the dynamic, feminine energy of creation. Emphasis is on nurturing ourselves as women- moving and breathing mindfully, connecting to the Earth, honoring our fluctuating energy levels, and feeling pleasure in our bodies. This yoga class is great for new mothers as post-baby exercise, and may also help fertility for those looking to conceive. Prenatal YogaBelly

A gentle blend of yoga, bellydance & meditation for pregnant women, 90 mins.

Prepares you for the birth of your baby, and your birth as a mother! This is so much more than a typical prenatal yoga class! Prenatal YogaBelly cultivates your intuition, creativity, sensuality and body-trust like no other! These qualities are essential to an enjoyable pregnancy and a smooth labour. The many changes a woman’s body goes through involves much surrender and opening, as does her mind and spirit. Her main guide is her body’s innate wisdom- the same wisdom that tells her what to eat and when.  This class encourages each woman to follow her body’s impulses in a safe, open, yet structured environment. We open with a special meditation, followed by breathing with mudras (yogic hand positions) designed to help your body prepare for labour, pelvic floor awareness and exercise combined with gentle yoga and bellydance movements to release tension and feel sensual, beautiful and comfortable in your changing body. Special attention is given to the pelvic floor, moving with fluidity, releasing tension through breath and vocalisation, listening to your natural impulses and bonding with your baby. We often use and create affirmations to transform fears into calm confidence. End the class rejuvinated, peaceful and relaxed in body and mind. Suitable for all women, beginners welcome, 90 mins.

Jaene’s brand of teaching addresses self-esteem by developing a positive relationship with the body and self, learning to be more aware of our body’s needs and the building of our individual mental/physical fitness. She has found bellydancing to be a great compliment to mindfulness meditation, a fun way to get fit and has a positive influence in increased self esteem. Bellydance as a form of dance compliments any body type/shape, can be learned at any age and helps us get in touch with our femininity/sensuality in a safe and loving way. The style Jaene teaches is Classical Egyptian style with elements of fusion bellydance.  You will learn Bellydance technique, improv and combos. In addition to dance, there is a focus on mindfulness and wellness in every class.  Also, occasional weekend workshops in bellydance technique and related subjects will be offered. Classes are held here at Shakti Sisters Yoga on Saturday mornings from 11am-12:30pm beginning on January 14th 2012. Pre-registration required due to limited space. $20/class. Directions given upon registration.
