I’m a complete beginner! Is this for me?

Yes! You do not need to have any yoga or dance experience to attend this class. Nor do you  need to be flexible, coordinated, or particularly strong! You are here to develop these qualities and have fun doing it.

Will I get in shape doing this?

Yes. With regular practice (at least once a week) you will develop muscle tone, flexibility and coordination. But more than that, you will feel  relaxed, energized and balanced. See benefits below:

Physical benefits: Muscular strength; Flexibility; Balance; Coordination; Hormonal balance; Fertility; Menstrual regulation; Toning of the pelvic floor muscles  & abdominals; Detoxification of internal organs; Improved posture; Grace & ease of movement; Increased sexual/sensual pleasure, increased energy.

Mental, Emotional & Spiritual Benefits: Emotional release & healing; Joy; Self-esteem; Confidence; Creative inspiration; Self-love & acceptance; Healthy body image; Improved relationship with your femininity; Sisterhood; Stronger intuition; Inspiration; Optimism.

Is this a suitable form of post-baby exercise?

Yes! YogaBelly is an excellent way to ‘get your body back’ after birth. It emphasizes abdominal and pelvic control which aids in recovering muscles that have been stretched and slackened during pregnancy and labour. It also promotes healthy strengthening of the rest of the body, overall fitness as well as relaxation and introspection which eases the transition to motherhood. This is not a ‘mom and baby yoga’ class- this is a space for mommy only, to recover her sense of personal space, boundaries and individual ‘me time’ free from the needs of others. If you are recovering from a c-section, it is recommended that you ask your doctor or midwife when it is safe to resume exercise… extra healing time is needed before this type of exercise and precautions may need to be taken.

What do I bring to class?

Clothes: Dress comfortably in clothes you can move in. Pants can be stretchy or loose, shirt can be short sleeved/tank top that is not too loose or large that it will get in your way. Bring a warm layer, (long sleeve shirt or hoodie) for meditation. This class is mostly done barefoot, however socks may be needed during meditation in colder months.

Yoga mat: The studio provides these, however you may bring your own.

Hip Scarf: The studio also provides these as they are optional for a portion of the class, however you may bring your own as well.

Can I start anytime?

Yes! You may sign up for a 6 week series or just drop in for a single class (or several) in the middle of a series, to get a taste.

Is the studio TTC accessible?

Yes! It is located just a 2 min walk from Main Street subway station. Free parking.
